Nuts of nutwood, cracked with stone ham-
mer (coup de poing). Small amydaloid
nuts, insipid nut flavour. Native name
padigi (Pigeon Hole). Tataji (Roper River)
The large stringy pine apple shaped fruits of pandanus are
placed in water and allowed to stand for
a while. The water acquires a sweetish
flavour. May ferment (Leichhardt)
The seed capsules of lotus lily are
collected and cooked, seeds are very
nice to eat.
Yanus require special treatment by
soaking in water, if not they are too
hot to the tongue and palate, and the
blacks describe the effect as "fire jump
up long a ---" (back passage).
