Sir,
I am directed by the Premier to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 15th instant and to inform you, in reply, that he does not see his way to authorise the collection through the Police and District Surveyors of information as to the aboriginal names of places and meanings of those names; but he has no objection, if you so desire, to send the circulars you enclose to the aboriginal stations in the colony, by which means the desired information may be obtained.
