She may be accompanied by two Lions, each with a paw lifted from the ground in an attitude of attention. The one full grown to represent the regular force of the country, the other a young Lion half grown Lion as a representative of the Volunteer force, which she is training up for the purpose of seconding & supporting the well disciplined energies of the full grown & well trained taught defender of our Constitution & our Liberty.
For the Composition of Reverses the trident is assumed as the emblem of our naval superiority & the musquet with its bayonet fixed is the representative of our military energies, for it does not appear that this appropriate enforcer of the ultima ratio of a British regiment, has ever once failed to manifest the superiority of British forces over all others, when opposed to numbers not unsurmountably superior.
Admitting then these two as leading emblems, the annexed designs for reverses composed of them are submitted to all kinds of correction & improvement.
