Kingston Jama [Jamaica], 12th July 1783
Dear Sir
This is the fourth Letter I have done myself the Honr of Writing to you since my arrival in Jamaica. I find you have received the small Articles I sent you by Mr. Thatcher of the 99th Regmt and I hope ere you get this, another small Box by Lieut Babington of the same Regimt who sailed from Port-royal 9th of June, he is an intelligent and good young Man and promised to deliver the Box at your House.
I have not yet got any Letter from you am afraid, they have been lost or mislaid, & I request you will immediately write me, as no one wishes your felicity or wants to gratify your requests or commands more than I do. I mean to stay some months in the Island after the Regt goes home for Reduction and try to compensate for my unfortunate Situation on barren Sand Banks where scarce any thing is to be seen but Mangroves by the Waters Edge, and two Species of the Convolvulus.
