Aug.st 24 Happily the Plants are in a most Flourishing Condition Sept 3d Entered the Streight 6 the distilling apparatus put in order allowance 2 quarts a day each man. a Puncheon serves the plants 2 & sometimes 3 days 14 the distilling apparatus rendered useless by the inner tube becoming unsolderd 17 sent two boats in search of water found none 18 the apparatus for distillation was repaird 19 the water getting short the people were stinted 23 Fairly out of the Streights 25 up to this day the Loss of Plants
Capt Bligh attributes this loss to the Closeness of the Cabbin he observed that it cheifly[sic] fell upon the Plants in the Cabbin & that most of these which died were placd near the side where the air was least free
