My dear Sir

I have taken the Liberty to send my observations on the Ascent of the Sap in Trees by the Ludlow Mail of this Day addressed to you.   Should my Letter arrive without the Parcels I will request the Favour of you to inform me that I may have an opportunity to apply to the Proprietors of the Coach to prevent it's being lost.  My scribble is a Cobweb that will soon be spun again;  but I would not, on any Account, have the most excellent drawings lost which you were so kind to give me.  I requested my Brother to repay you the Expence of them, not because I did not wish to be indebted to you for them, but because I know that the purse of Sir Joseph Banks, in the promotion of every Science, is open to those who are without pecuniary means
