Sir 

I have taken the liberty of sending you the inclosed Letter, for which I ought to make many Apology's, not having the least claim on my Part, to intrude myself upon you in this Manner, but my wishes for the young man's welfare makes me thus press myself upon your humanity and beg your Indulgence for the liberty I now take in recommending him to your notice.   Mr. W.m Brown has met with rather uncommon ill luck in the line of his profession.  He has been in several single as well as General Actions in the last War.  The single actions He was in was under Captn. Pownal of the Apollo Frigate, where he was wounded twice and as to the General ones among several others He was in that memorable one of the 12th of April where he servd aboard the Resolution as acting Leiut.t and had the
