from him the leave granted him by his Lieut. Colonel, and as I do not feel myself justified in doing away any arrangement of my Superior Officer by taking from him that Leave I trust Your Excellency will not (through any false insinuations) conceive that I have done but that which my Duty in the Command of the Corps points out to me, by my Orders of yesterday. Taking Captain Kemps Rank from him, or degrading him in the estimation of the Corps I deny and I therefore request Your Excellency will do me, as Capt Kemps Commanding Officer, justice, in convincing that Officer of the impropriety of his Conduct in stating to Your Excellency so ill founded an accusation, or that he may be brought before a Military Tribunal, and there prove or suffer me to disprove his assertions.
