Churinga Roper River
An old woman was in the
habit of capturing the men
of [tribe?], whom she ate. One
day a paty of warriors were
successful in slaying her and
were in act of cutting out her
tongue when it flew out of her
mouth making a noise as it
spun around. The men chased
the tongue but it reached a
tree which it struck, deeply
embedding itself. They tried to
cut it out but failed, even-
tually they took a piece of the
wood the shape of the tongue which they tied to a
piece of string and as they
swung it defiantly and joyfully
in the air it emitted a note
like that of the slain witch
The name of witch was given
to the piece of wood, [mainly?]
