and after waiting a reasonable time a senior officer adjusted his eyeglass and, surveying the others in his haughtiest manner, said: I think we have subdued them now, ah gentlemen, we will return."
The rioters on one occasion made as if to enter a hut occupied by W.A.A.C.s but somebody shouted out that the hut was occupied buy ladies and the Tommies, always a gentlemen where women are concerned turn their attention elsewhere and the trouble gradually calmed down.
