Port Said

Oct. 29 1918.
Our late white crew left for the shore at 10 a.m. They will remain at P. Said until a boat is available to take them to Australia. They being on full pay until they arrive in Australia also free passage over & free hotel expenses, the cost approx. £7000 to land at Sydney, N.S.W., whilst waiting. At 2 p.m. the Indian sailors, firemen & stewards joined average amount 3 Indian natives to the one white man formally used. The rest of the convoy had to leave on account of our delay Re change of Crew.

Oct. 30 1918.
Called on board the Port Darwin & met some chaps officers from Sydney. They having left in Sept. So had news Re our home port Sydney. Spent part of the night ashore at the Y.M.C.A. & enjoyed a lecture of the Pyrmids which are outside of Cairo & one of the historical sights of the world. During the Interval of the change of crew we had Military officers & Indian troops to wash the ship down after coaling & made a very good job of it.

Oct. 31st.
Still laying at Port Said awaiting orders troops drilled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Native Crew in full swing. News today Re our departure to morrow at 6 a.m. & news re the armistice between Turkey & the Allies & orders passed around not to fire on any Turkish submarine if they should be on the surface flying their countries flag. Yet we should not care to trust them somehow it will be wise for them to [keep] well out of our way & especially to [indecipherable] distroyers as submarines on the
