Still coaling, picnics, concerts etc. organised & all having a good time ashore. The labor at South Africa very uneasy, strikes & lockouts amongst the white workmen all over the Country.
Mon. 11.1919
2 p.m. coaling finished & washed the troopship. In a dreadful coalic state everyone full of coal dust. Orders to proceed to sea at 7 a.m. tomorrow & all troops ordered to return to the ship at 10.30 p.m. tonight.
Tues. Aug. 12
At 6 a.m. all troops mustered on the wharf & counted, ship searched for stowaways, one soldier (single) found missing & (a doubtful character). At 7 a.m. left Port Natal for Fremantle, West Australia. At 9 a.m. it commenced to blow hard & increased to a strong gale & heavy sea. The transport rouling [rolling] heavily & the best part of our crowd sea sick & feeling very miserable.
Wed. Aug. 13
Strong gale & very heavy sea & rolling fearfully. At 1 a.m. hove too put the transport head to sea & eased the engines to slow, the women having suffered bad through the weather. At 11 a.m. weather moderating & turned around again & made our proper course. At noon we were only 180 miles from Port Natal & averaged 6.4 miles per hour since we left, 28 hours steaming.
