and we settled the matter much to my satisfaction. I am happy to learn that James [Doorn?] seems much pleased with the offer of the place, and I have no doubt but that under his management our garden will bear a a better aspect than it has yet done. I have not seen him yet, but on monday I shall go to Kew, on purpose to adjust all matters with him. Mr. Aiton says, he will spare him as Michaelmas, and I shall make it my business to meet him there at Cambridge to present him to the Governors, as well as to give him some hints for his conduct in a strange place and among strange people.
