The following is an account of what I have received from the Stores, as thinking it not amiss by acquainting you with how far I extend my wants. On the 19th of April 1800 was put upon the victualling book.  The rations at first were for a few weeks short allowance, but in general have consisted of 4lb of salt pork,10lb of wheat, 6lb of Indian corn, and 4oz of sugar, per week.  In lieu of pork, 7lb of salt beef. A few times fresh beef and pork have been issued.  Sometimes all wheat, without Indian corn, and twice 7lb of wheat of what ground down into flour, without being sifted, in  lieu of grain, have been given.  About 2lb & ½ of coarse Gunpowder. A Gun cannot repaired, and a small screw made for the lock.  4 packing cases which are sent to you.  From the 23rd of june have had a Man to travel with me. The House as before stated. Nov. 28th received from Gov. a £10 promissory note for which I signed my name to 4 receipts, and Col. Patterson signed them as witness.  As I said in my former letter, I would trouble the Gov. for as little money as possible, but a person stands in need of many things that he does not think of when in England. By this flood happening I shall soon be under the necessity of troubling him for more. The part of the Garden I had in cultivation was low land, which I had often times dreaded, but I should have done little to this part had the whole been fenced in.  If the place was fenced and well cultivated, I have not the hard doubt but what I could make it supply the most of my wants.  I have unfortunately broke my thermometer, and by not having a duplicate am at a great loss, therefore I wish you would send me a small pocket one.  The variation has been from 102 to 30, but I think of late is has been much hotter.

I remain, Sir, with the
greatest confidence
and integrity, your
truly humble servant
