Cape of Good Hope. 25th Feb: 1793.

Sir

About two months ago I wrot you by Edward Maxwell Esqr passenger on board an American Sp. [Ship] P. Washington, who took charge of a box of Seeds consisting of 314 Sorts.  My reason for sending them by that Conveyance I explained in the letter.

I have been since in the country to search for some particular plants, and only returned yesterday when I found the Sp. [Ship] Albemarle Capt Bowen, ready to Sail for England, which has prevented my sending a General Collection.  I have been alble [able] only to send a box of Bulbs which was ready some weeks ago.

We have had here a French Botanist a' Monsr.[Monsieur] Aubert. a refugee who has been on the Island Tristam da Cusiha [Tristan da Cunha], where he has made a small collection of plants, which are curious, they seem to pertake of both Continents, he favoured me with some few Speciments which I shall Send you by the next opportunity
