Cape of Good Hope 27 May 1790

Sir

My last letter was pr. favour of Mr. Christian Christmas passenger on board a Danish Ship.  I did afterward intended to send some seeds by him but the S, E, Wind came on and prevented me getting them on board.  This season has been very unlucky for me, as no English homeward bound Ship has touched in the month of Decr.  I put up Several considerable collections to be ready, particular one of very curious Bulbs which I have been obliged to unpack & Plant in pots & Boxes.  My collection of Bulbs which are mostly of the Alexandria Class is numerous;  But the frutescent plants which I collected on my first arrival is greater part grown too large & have been obliged to throw many of them away, but I have many new Succulent plants, some very curious Stapelias Euphorbias &c. but how I shall get them home, God only knows.  On a trip over Hottentot Holland mountains I found two beautiful Species of Erica which appears to me nondiscript, and I beg if it is agreable to you to name them after my two old friends Lee & Aiton.  I send you also enclosed three Seeds of an extra curious Euphorbia which ripened in my collection. This will be delivered by Mr. Fryer (late Master of the Bounty) who comes home passenger in a Dutch Ship, and has taken charge of two Small Boxes one of Bulbs (Nº 1) and the other Seed (Nº 2).
