I have not yet seen the prints you have been so good as to mention to me, but your kind remarks on them has made me extremely happy.
I now send you my Dear Sir a sketch of the Texel, which I believe will give you a more perfect knowledge of the passage for shiping in & out of that place than any of the Plans I have seen. The one marked No 1 is precisely as the Pilot dictated, but as his distances were certainly too little, I have presumed to correct that, carefully adhering however to his Idea of space in the narrow passes. This Plan is marked No 2. The one marked No 3 is a general thing on a small scale, to exemplify the other two, & to give you an idea how the Fleet lie in the Texel at this time. Untill I drew out these Plans I had no idea of the Nature of the Channels, and if the Fleet last year had proceeded in as it was
