Madam
Notwithstanding his Excellency Governor Bligh has always I dare say, informed you of the various shameful transactions that have occurred here since the beginning of the year 1808, I am however induced as much by my inclination as by the promise I made to our excellent and esteemed Governor, previous to his departure for the Derwent, to write this letter knowing that it will be satisfactory to you to hear of his and your amiable Daughter's safety and good health.
The Speke a Whaler arrived here on last Friday the 29th Septbr five weeks from the Derwent, she has brought no news of any importance, with which we were not before acquainted, having sailed from thence the same week in which the Lady Barlow left it; by the latter we got letters from the Governor & Mrs Putland whom I am happy to add were then very well.
