3. Select a base line.  It should be a line fairly central in the sketch: about ½ a mile long.  The ends should be clearly marked & visible from entry points & each other - it should be on fairly level country.  

Measure the base, - This by carefully pacing it.  The accuracy of the triangulation depends on the base.

When the base has been determined plot it on the sketch.

Obtain the position of ruling points by intersection. 

Fill in the detail mainly by intersection.  Detail that cannot be filled in by this means should be traversed.

4.  Col. depression in a ridge joining an under feature or offshoot to the main ridge.  A break in a ridge.
