unfortunately some several of our shells fell into our own Infantry ranks. A good many casualties were caused this way and when the Germans attacked our lads were forced back and got caught in some heavy fire from the German guns which were able to enfilade their own trenches from the flanks owing to the line running in such a zigzag direction.

All to-day and well into the evening the Ambulance Cars were kept busy bringing in the wounded to Bac St Maur. It was a sad sight. Numbers of
