the sides of the road, the hedges of Hawthorne, Briar elder- berries etc were intertwined with blackberries with plenty of ripe berries on. But as luck would have it every halt we made, either they were on the wrong side of the road or there was none where we halted. Whenever resting on a march, troops must always fall out on the left side of the road, the officers only being on the right.
