Dear little Barbara,Beatrice & Pat are at St. Ediths school, Brackley Northamptonshire & Tom is at Eton College so we brought Carleton & [indecipherable] to see the battlefields of Flanders We saw Dixmude Ypres – Poperinge & Neuport it is all terribly sad but I am not going to depress you with all account
This is a most lovely place full of beautiful buildings & in July & August is very jolly. The peasants still wear wooden sabots & the coal & milk vegetable carts are drawn by dogs who [indecipherable]
In a few moments I am going to see Bruges Cathedral which is about half an hour from here in a train & tomorrow we go to Ghent & Brussells. After a few days there we will go to Paris.I enclose a little hankey with some Belgian lace made with bobbins on a pillow. you must whip the edge of the linen I think or it will fray -My best love to all your family. As ever your affectionate friend
