Tuesday Night
My dear Sir I feel I have but little to say after all. In page 2, A, [Quy?] if 130 be the proper Meridian or near it - I only propose it as a Matter of doubt, not having any Chart by me exact enough to remove it.
B. [Quy?], if the order should not be positive for a general tracing of this Coast? Unless I learn of arrival on it, should make it too hazardous, (as a Lee Shore may present itself) I should use more than one [indecipherable], be for it. Mr Bass told me that the [fixe value?] found, during Winter, at the Mouth of this his Strait, was WSW; & in proof of it, shewed me how much of the Strait was sheltered by the NW extremity of Dieman's Island. I think, Capt Flinders told me much of same.
I should propose nothing more than a general trace of the Coast, where it first enters no Bays or deep Inlets - one Advantage from this Tracing will be, to ascertain the Points that will require the most particular Examination, when the Survey in detail takes Place;
