reaping the fruits earnd [sic] by my voluntarily exposing myself to danger & incurring a material expense

Neither the on personal hazard nor expence [sic] nor will I ever withold[sic] when likely to meet with their proper reward.[note right ] encouragement  -- Born with an attachment to a singular pursuit I have already performd [sic] two voyages & in the Course of them have merited I hope some share of the publick[sic] regard & tho my services are upon this occasion refusd [sic] on account of the expence [sic] that would be incurrd [sic] by purchasing anot [[indecipherable] vessel
