Dear Sir Joseph,

The bearer of this is Mr Hugh Bell who goes Surgeon of the Investigator.  He stays in town till the ship is on the point of sailing and is in a course of tuition at the Museum in Windmill Street and Castle Street.  If you will be pleased to direct his studies and allow him to inspect the books relating to the object of the Voyage in your library you will greatly oblige.
