Unfortunately I received your letter just as we got under way, which prevented my returning an immediate answer. I am at a loss good Sir! how to thank you for these marks of impartial and generous distinction, shown for one you scarcely know, but, to one who will be indefatigable in any path you shall hereafter point out, to gain and preserve your esteem, as the most valuable acquisition fortune could bestow. When you imagined I had a taste for science you were not deceived, however, I have not as yet, given the preference to any particular study.
