1795 . June 20.

Mr. Fairbairn Gardiner at Chelsea the oldest man I am acquainted with in that Line who has been very Observant for many years told me that the Frost of the late winter was in his opinion the most severe that has happend since the winter of 1762.3

Arbutus andrachne was planted in 1760. it was coverd that year and in 1762 3 but not since it is nearly killd but buds out a little from the lower branches

Sophora microphylla & olete planted in 1772 are both Quite dead  Pomegranates &c also

The Laurus tinus had stood more severe frosts than the Late there are some at Chelsea said to have been planted 60 year that were killd probably they were planted in 1740. The Laurus tinus was last winter Coverd with an amazing load of bloom in consequence of the hot summer which was probably the Cause of its death Pistacia Terebinthus did not suffer at all.
