Im acknowledging the receipt of your letter of the 31st 
[ undecipherable ] requesting from me a testimonial of your character and respectability
I have pleasure in being enabled to state that ​​​
during a residence of five or six years in this district the
 [ undecipherable ] & uniformly observed the improved state of your [ farm? ] and your [ intelligena?] [ lateuh? ]
 and respectability placed you with the first of the settlers of this district.
Unsought for by you I felt it my duty to express my request that one of the most [ undecipherable ] acceptable of its inhabitants should have [ undecipherable ] to another district when his [ undecipherable ]  hence might have been attended with advantage This [ undecipherable ] [ is? ] an example of [ in? ] improved cultivation and [  my? any? very? ] superior intelligence.
I desire to convey my best wishes for the prosperity and health of yourself and family
