Sir,

As I understand several people are sent to the Settlement of Port Jackson in New Holland (particularly Mechanics).  I have taken the liberty of addressing you & will consider myself highly oblig'd if I may be permited or rather sent there.  The business I am employ'd in at Present is the Upholsterer business & that with Painting, Roll Hanging. Trunk & Umbrella Making I was bred to - all those branches I carried on in Inverness, but the Trade there being very dull indeed, induc'd me come to London where I have been now near a year - the times being very hard I find it very distressing to support a wife and two Children (Boys) - if you are pleas'd to give engage me for that Settlement, I will produce you such references with regard to my Character as I presume will give Satisfaction.  As I do not wish you be at the Trouble of writing I will take the liberty of calling on you when I think you are disengag'd & I am Sir
