Port Dalrymple 11th March 1808

My dear Sir

The return of a small Oiling vessel dispatched by Major Johnston (the officer I left in charge of the NS Wales Corps when I left Port Jackson to form this settlement) to inform me he has deposed the late Governor Bligh, annulled the Power Vested in him by the Sovereign, and himself assumed the Reigns of Government, affords just time to say, that having established this Settlement, I feel my duty to His Majesty, from the Calls and Prerogative of my superior Civil & Military rank compels me to remain no longer in the direction of only a single company of the Regiment I command and of absolutely not one Hundred Prisoners but to
