Dear Sir

I take the liberty of sending you by the Majestic, Whaler, Lawson Master, a box containing some of the animal and mineral productions of this inhospitable region.  To you, whose life has been devoted to the acquirement of knowledge in every branch of Natural History, it is not likely that any thing we find here will be new, but, as coming from a part of the globe but little frequented, perhaps they may be of some value.  I am happy in this opportunity to expressing how truly I am,
