President of the Royal Society.

Dr Sir

     I retain a grateful Sense of your Kindness to me when in London.  I wish to approve myself worthy of these Attentions by my assiduous pursuit of natural History, a Science which you Sir, so eminently advance and patronize.

     My entomologic Labors have been considbly [considerably] retarded by other intervening Subjects which I have been unwilling to pass unnoticed.

     The annexed solicits yr. kind acceptance, it is somewhat out of my usual Path;  I hope therefore you will excuse inaccuracies;  and if you esteem it worthy the Attention of the
