Madeira May, 29 1777

Sir

I have sent pr favour of Mr. Donaldson a Merchant of this place:  my own Collection of Plants consisting of about 440 different species. which collection I beg you will be so kind to give them a place in your house along with my Cape Collection, after satisfying your self with the perusal of them.

A few lines from you would give me great pleasure for I begin already to languish as no conversation goes on here but that of Politics.  To morrow I embarck for the Azores, where I intend to spend a Short time.  I hope to be more Solitary in the Azores there, and shall be able to give you a circumstantial account of all my peregrinations.  I send you inclosed [enclosed] my Catalogue in case their is any useful nots [notes] to be found in it, but should be glad if opportunity serves to send it back to Madeira again.  I return My sincere compliments to Dr Solande

Adieu
Frans: Masson

NB  In the Catalogue the Portuguee Name of the Plants is inclosed [enclosed] in a Parenthis.
