Whitehall Septr. 9th. 1798

Sir

I saw Mr King this Morning with Mr Parke [Mungo Park] & delivered him your Letters, but the arrival of a Jamaica Mail has made our Visit very short - your letter to Mr King specifying what you wished Mr Parkes salary to be, could not be found - Mr King said perhaps it might be six or 10 shillings per diem he could not tell which, but seemed disposed to allow the highest; therefore for want of that document nothing could be done at this [indecipherable]. But if Lady Banks will have the goodnes to inform me what this sum was, I shall be armed with that information & will again call respecting it - The information I have promised for Mr P. is, that his Salary will commence from the time of his embarking on bd the Porpoise - & his salary is to be drawn for yearly, or half yearly by the Governor - I commissioned Mr Parke (who was not then arrived, what Mr King said on Friday the 108 Shillings per Diem, which he
