On a former Occasion I stated to your Excellency the Reasons why as Surgeon to this Settlement I craved the Aid of an Increase of Salary  

At that time a variety of Colonial Business necessarily occupied your Attention, and on the whole you thought it better to wait for a more favorable Occasion of making your thoughts on this head known to His Majesty's Minister

The late arrivals from Europe, and their consequent Departure from this Port, will afford you an Opportunity of giving Such Effect to my Application, as you may think me fairly intitled to, and I would hope your long knowledge of me, both as an aquaintance and an Officer who has been under your immediate Command, at different
