My Dear Sir

I am just returned home from the Admiralty and find they have made out a Commission appointing me Commander of the Porpoise and Captain Short second Commander to obey me in all orders I may give to him. I am to proceed in the Lady Sinclair, which is so far agreeable to me having prepared myself for that purpose. Lieutenant Putland is appointed one of the Lieutenants of the Porpoise, but I hope I shall be able to manage it so, when I sail, as to take him in my ship to assist me & perform the Voyage.  The distress and trouble I have had has been very great & made me very unwell thought on my old nervous complaint.  Your letter my Dear Sir was attended to by our Friends who have worked very hard to assist me: but I will let you know more in the beginning of the Week as now I have only time been to
