H.M.A.S. "Warrego" at Sevastopol
9th December 1918
No. W. 18/162.

Sir,

I have the honour to report that about 9.15 a.m. L.T. December 9th, in position Lat. 44.30 N. Long. 33.27 E., S.S. "Patmos" flying German Merchant flag, passed close to "Warrego" and "Hope" and did not dip her flag.

2.   I ordered "Hope" to proceed and insist on her doing so.
3.   "Hope" proceeded after "Patmos" and "Warrego" proceeded on her couse at slow speed.
4.   Observing both vessels remained stopped for some time I turned and proceeded towards them, and as I closed I saw "Patmos" steaming round "Hope" with her colours dipped.
5.   I received a signal from Commanding Officer, "Hope", saying his orders had been complied with and "Patmos" was proceeding on her voyage, whereupon "Warrego" and "Hope" proceeded to Sevastopol.
6.   Report from Commanding Officer of "Hope", his orders to Master of "Patmos" and apology (in English and German) from Master of "Patmos" are attached.

I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
Lieutenant Commander R.N.

Captain ("D)
