Bathing was regularly indulged in during the summer months and boat racing all the year round.
On the whole, considering we were in a strange land, the lighter side of our existence was fairly well catered for. The men were the worst off owing to the very limited amount of leave granted them and although it was tried to get them this altered the Italian C. in C. was adamant on the matter, and refused to make any difference between our men and his own.
