Our first duty of course was to complete with oil fuel, this usually took from two to four hours depending on the amount of pressure obtainable at the oil wharf. While oiling was in process "hands to quarters clean guns and tubes" was the order and incidentally it may be said that it took the whole of our four days in port to get the guns and tubes back to their normal conditions of cleanliness, once more. Oiling finished we were towed to our berth where if no stunt happened in the meanwhile we were at rest for the next four days and the crew at liberty to go ashore for three hours each day and revel in the delights of vino and the alluring charms of the signoritas at the Teatro Mazzari.
