Thomsons Nursery Mile End Oct 22nd-1794----
Sir
I received your Honour favour of the 28th of Septr in due time, and would certainly have acknowledg'd the receipt of it before this, but that I knew Your request was answer'd in a Letter I took the liberty to write your Honour two days before and which I hope would be Satisfactory - Although. both Captain Burnyeat and Mr. Jackson the Purser, (Mr. Slater's brother) are ready to corroborate what I have had the pleasure of informing your Honour, concerning the Business -
As the Moutan or Peony Shrub was a valuable acquisition, I took every possible pains to get acquainted with the Chinese manner of cultivating them, as well as every part of their History, which might facilitate or assist their Culture in Europe - I had six plants of it, beside your Honours one when we Left China, and only two beside yours, Shewed any signs of Life on our Arrival in England - Your Yulan was a fine plant, which with six others all died, before we had got half way on the Passage - The Lap Sue is I suppose, the Wax Tree, as I did not receive it by that name
