I find it prudent to remain where I am untill better times, worse they cannot possibly be, - our coffee is absolutely unsaleable. -

     With great regret I learn that my old friend and companion, Chr Smith is no more. -

     Dr. Brown, who arrived in Jamaica in 1798, and brought me a letter from you, is still here;  he is surgeon to our Artillary and at the head of his profession.  The goodness of his heart and his sterling worth, have gained him the esteem and respect of all ranks of people, from the governor down to the meanest negro.

     While I live Sir, I shall subscribe myself with pride and gratitude
