Sir Joseph

Our short stay at the Cape prevented me from visiting those places which you wished me for to explore, through which I have been confined to a short limit. Had I known that I should have been on shore for 10 days, I would have examined the Peninsula; but as for the other place it would have been impossible, for I was informed that it would take 4 days hard riding to get to it. This ship is different from the Porpoise in making delays, for I understand that the Commander of her did not wish to lose a moment after he had supplied his wants, which were all done in the course of 3 or 4 days.

My remittance from here is scarce worthy of notice; this place has so often been frequented by so many Botanists; however I have sent per favor of Mr. Barrow a few specimens & seeds collected in a very rude manner, indeed I had not time to label them, as I did not wish to lose the space of minute in examining this often explored place,
