A list of such engravings of drawings, plans charts etc as will be necessary for the illustrations of the narrative of Lord Macartney's Embassy to China.
Large prints which with the plans and charts will make a volume separate from the letter press.
No 1. A group of figures on the banks of the river Pei-ho assembled together to see the Embassador pass, during which a punishment of the bamboo is inflicted. The dresses, manners and characters of both sexes are illustrated by this drawing.
2. A view on the Grand Canal where it is carried along the side of a large lake and separated from it by a strong embankment of earth. A description of the Canal and their mode of embanking is given in the journal.
3. View of a Chinese bridge, under which barges are about to pass. In this drawing may be seen, in what manner the Chinese make their small canals communicate with the grand one.
4. View of a military post with ranks of soldiers drawn out in compliment to the Embassador. From this excellent drawing may be collected a good idea of the Chinese military. The custom of falling on their knees at the word of command when a person of rank approaches is as singular as
