Navy Office 15th feby 1805
Dear Sir
I have received your Letter of the 13th. Inst respecting the deductions made at the Pay Office on account of Land Tax & Civil List, from the several Bills issued from hence for payment of the Men of Science who embarked on board the Investigator, and am to acquaint you in reply that the first half Years Salary being paid in full was owing to the amount being advanced to those Gentlemen and therefore entitled an Imprest from which no deductions are ever made, on Certificates signed by Lieut.t Flinders conformably to their Lordships Order of the 15th April 1801 being sent from time to time to this Office, Bills were made out for the amount of the Salary that was due at the date thereof, their Lordships having so denominated the allowances directed to be paid, consequently they were subjected to some deductions as all other salaries had
