5th. All Persons whose Tokens after Examination are accepted by the Officers of His Majesty's Mint as genuine, will be paid their full Value by Tale, in Draughts upon the Bank of England.
It is absolutely necessary that a Person well skilld in separating bad Tokens from good ones should be employed in making the selection - many Persons of this description are to be met with, who rarely mistake, & very seldom hesitate in forming an opinion: In cases of doubt, however, the following Rule may be of use to those who wish to make themselves Masters of the business of Selection.
If a halfpenny weighs 130 Grains or more, it may be admitted as good, unless it bears evident marks of being a Counterfeit. If the Weight is less, a suspicion must be admitted against it, encreasing [increasing] as the Weight lessens - but if it does not weigh 127 Grains, the presumption against it is so strong, that unless it bears decided marks of being genuine, it must be rejected.
