The pleasure I receivd in seeing again your hand writing after so long an interval of interruption was I can assure you very sincere heaven send that the agitations which have so long disrupted your Country have at last Finaly subsided the Love of Science which manifests itself with so much brilliancy among you is a good omen may every thing good else beside follow in due course & rapid succession is my most sincere wish
I have infinite Pleasure in telling you that our government granted without I believe a moments hesitation a Pasport to Mr. Baudin & that they have at last after some months solicitation acceded to my wishes respecting M de Billerdieres Plants Collections I hope within a few days to deliver to M [Indecipherable] the whole that I was enabled to collect together I believe all that came to England a monument of his indefatigable industry that does him immortal honor
I confess I wishd much to learn from his specimens some of those discoveries in the natural order of Plants which he must have made but it seemed to my feelings dishonorable ever to avail myself even of the opportunity I had of examining them I of course did to not look them over all will be returned to him I shall not Retain a Leaf or Flower or one Botanical Idea of his Collecting for
