Sydney October 9, 1807

Sir

     I herewith have the nonor of enclosing you a Copy of a Letter (Nº 1) I addressed to Major Johnston as my Commanding Officer with his reply thereto (Nº 2) and I have to request Your Excellency as Commander in Chief will be pleased to interpose your authority as the circumstances of my case may appear to deserve and not suffer me to be deprived of my Military Rank and Command in the Corps from a mistaken and ill founded opinion.

     Your Excellency will perceive Major Johnston issued a Regimental Order yesterday morning (Nº 3) directing me to remain here with Lieut.t Colonel Patersons leave of absence untill further orders, although I believe no Official Notification from that Officer has been received to justify such a Command, Colonel Patersons leave being merely from Port Dalrymple to Head Quarters as fully appears by Extract (Nº 4) from Lieut.t Colonel Patersons Public Letter to Your Excellency.
