Sunday 21st April 1918

inevitable explosion. Several came too near throwing debris onto road. Needless to say we Kept our "Headsdown". Had meals at the Battery so we were lucky, for our rations were down at our lines. In the afternoon Fritz put a few salvos over near us, and two 4.2" shells landed on the road alongside our dugout, wounding two of the party severely. One went into a chaps left lung & he was just pretty near finished. I bandaged up the other fellow who got a good Aussie, getting it in the groin & knee. Luckily an ambulance was passing so they took them to the Dressing Station. We left here for our natural and got our horses, reporting back to our waggon lines. "We didn't arf go" as a Tommy would say.
