As I write I can see the moss covered walls of the hostlery where his head-quarters once were situated and within 7 miles of Fovant, stands the magnificent ruin of Wardour Castle, the crumbling walls of which, still to this day reveal the scars of Cromwell's cannon. The castle was held in those days by a Loyalist family pledged to the cause of King Charles the First, & was valiantly defended by a high spirited lady in the absence of her Lord.
