Captain Short was to confine himself to the Duty within the Ship ; but that I was to direct the Courses we were to steer and other things attending thereon, and he was enjoined to obey my orders.
In consequence of my Duty attending the Right Honorable the Secretary of States Office, and not being able to join the Porpoise when I was first appointed, Captain Short received the necessary orders ; and because one of them directs him to proceed to Port Jackson, and there to put himself under my Command, he holds it up to support his conduct to me, notwithstanding it was expressly mentioned he was to proceed with the Lady Sinclair ; and he had subsequent directions to follow my orders, as I became responsible for the success of the Voyage.
I have never interrupted Captain
